Now, this is how the Sebald Code works: first you would hear the ringing of a bell, the first word after the bell is the first coded word, after that, every tenth word is a coded word, the bell would ring again immediately after the last coded word.
Example:
"Character 1
(ringing a bell) I love eating prunes. They're so squishy, chewy, and delicious. I am always happy when I eat yummy prunes, unless they get trapped between my teeth.
Character 2
(nodding in agreement) Me too. When that happens I must send for my husband, who can usually - if he's not busy - help get them unstuck.
Character 1
(taking out a notebook and pen) Where does your husband live?
Character 2
With me, at Chewy Gum Lane, across from that prune museum we visited once.
(The two characters ring a bell again.)"
From this Sebald code, one would get the message "I am trapped send help at once", and obviously realize that the author of the code was trapped and needed help.
